“No Percy!  I wont let you!” she screamed.  She stood with her back against the doors.  Her blonde curls flowed in front of her face and fear filled her stormy grey eyes.  A small line of water came from the bottom of both her eyes as she shed a tear and it rolled down her bruised face.  It left a clean line on her cheek where dirt used to be and dripped off her scraped chin and fell to the ground.

He wanted to be there with her.  To protect her, to love her for eternity.  He couldn’t let her do it alone.

He tired to run to her as Jason held one of his arms and Frank held the other.  Leo was blocking him from any chance of running to her.  He tried to escape the grasp of his friends and run to her and called out her name.

  “Annabeth!  Don’t do this!”

                                                                           .  .  .

  “The doors,” Annabeth said.

Percy and Annabeth stood at the doors amazed.  They were huge and beautiful.  Giftedly crafted.  After all they went threw with monsters, they were relived to see open doors to the living world.

As the walked forward, one step away from life, they stopped.  Percy took hold of Annabeth’s hand as they saw their friends on the other side of the doors.

They took a step together, and left the world of the dead.

Their friends ran to them, glad to see they were alive.  A massive group hug took place and some tears, sobbing and even laughter they shared.  They were all together again.

A gust of wind blasted through the open doors and all eight demigods looked.  They heard a screech and many different squeals of monsters.  They were coming.  Too many to handle.

All demigods took out their weapons and braced themselves for battle.

“There’s too many!” Annabeth shouted over all the screeching.

Percy stood close to her, ready to fight be her side.  She wouldn’t look at him as if she had guilt.

  They came.

Flying demons, hellhounds, ogres and other monsters worse than those were right at the doors as the demons flew through.

The demons attacked as Piper stabbed with her knife.  Jason slashed with his sword.  Hazel summoned gold and jewels and slingshot them at the demons heads and they fell to the ground.  Frank turned himself into a giant eagle and killed anything that came in his way.  Leo burned anything that got close.  Nico summoned warrior skeletons to fight.

Percy was taking out all his anger on any monster that came at him.  He was invincible.  Annabeth was swatting and beating demons with her stick she found.

One demon came to close and clawed Annabeth in her shoulder.  She screamed as it picked her up and dropped her and she landed face down on the ground.  Percy ran over to help but she got up, but in great pain.

A demon came between him and Annabeth as he killed it.

Both of them looked at the doors.  There were too many.  Monsters worse than winged demons.  They couldn’t take on them all.  They were all going to die.

Percy looked at her with much concern.  He saw in her eyes what she was going to do.

His eyes widened and he shook his head.  “Annabeth…NO!”

Everyone saw.  She ran to the doors and Percy was about to go after her.

Frank and Jason grabbed hold of Percy’s arms and Leo blocked him.  Hazel and Nico were still fighting side by side and Piper was yelling for Annabeth to stop.

“Annabeth!  Don’t do this!  Let me do it!” he screamed.

He tired to run to her as Jason held one of his arms and Frank held the other.  Leo was blocking him from any chance of running to her.  He tried to escape the grasp of his friends and run to her and called out her name.

  “Annabeth!  Don’t do this!”

For the first time Percy cried full on.  He didn’t care his friends were there to see him break apart.

Annabeth left eye contact with him and starred at the ground panting.  She began to sweat and shake.  Percy tried to break free without hurting his friends but he had no choice.  He had to save her.  She would die.

He kicked and shoved, punched and squirmed but nothing worked.

“I love you Percy,” she mumbled, as a second tear streamed down her cheek and bounced into little droplets as it hit the ground.

She slowly backed up, back into the world of death.  She had top close the doors.  She had to save her friends…she had to save Percy.  After all he had done for her.

Percy watched as the girl he loved closed the doors from the other side and stopped the monsters from getting through to the land of the living.  Percy watched as his precious Annabeth scarified herself to save him.  This wasn’t right.  He was supposed to protect her.  Not the other way around.

Percy escaped the grasp of his friends and ran to the closed doors.  He slammed himself into the doors and banged on them.  They wouldn’t budge.  The doors of death were officially closed.

He called to her, but couldn’t hear anything, except the horrible terror of her scream.

Percy shut down and slammed his head on doors and slid down and fell to his knees.  He cried and put his one hand on the door, and heard nothing else.

  He failed.
